Dr Ang Quiqing

Dr Ang is the Vice-Chief Psychiatrist in the Epidemiology Department of the Shanghai Mental Health Centre. She is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai. Dr. Ang received her MD and PhD degree from Fudan University School of Medicine, Shanghai and received her post-doctoral training at the Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, USA. Dr. Ang's current research projects include pharmaco-economic study in patients of first-time psychotic episode. Dr. Ang has a strong interest in bridging communication and dialogue between China and developed countries in the area of psychiatric research, in an effort to promote data-driven decision-making in mental health policy in China.

Dr Dong Wentian

Dr Dong is the Attending Psychiatrist at the Peking University, The Institute of Mental Health in Beijing. Dr Dong is also the Vice-Director of the Clinical Psychology Ward a position he has held since January, 2004. Dr Dong's major research field is in FMRI and he also has an interest in OCD and personality disorders.

Dr (Irene) Kwai Kwok Kam

Dr Kam has been working in the field of General Adult and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, New Territories East Cluster in Hong Kong since she acquired her specialist qualification in Psychiatry in 2000 and she has also been active in both teaching and research pursuits. As an honorary Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Kam is enthusiastic in teaching Psychiatry to undergraduate medical students. Her keen interest in research included a validation study of a bilingual SCID instrument in the use of Hong Kong Chinese population. Dr Kam's most recent project involves investigation of psychiatric morbidities of patients recovering from SARS.

Dr Fidiansjah Mursjid

Dr Mursjid graduated from the University of Indonesia in 1998 and is the Vice-Director of Medical Care at the Jakarta Drug Dependence Hospital, Indonesia. He has undergone additional training courses on HIV-AIDS through the United National Drug Control Programme in Thailand and a Health Care Policy Development course through the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Korea.

Dr Bung-Nyun Kim

Dr Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, School of Medicine at Seoul National University, Korea and teaches the medical students a lecture named "patient-doctor-society" which is a four year program with multidisciplinary colleagues. Dr Kim's major interests are community mental health and biological researches in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr Kim is also involved in the school mental health community as team leader in the Korean Association of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr Myungsoo Lee

Dr Lee is the Director of the Kangnam Community Mental Health Center in Seoul, Korea. He also works for the Yong-In Mental Hospital which is a WHO Collaborating Centre. Dr Lee's main interest is in community mental health and mental health policy. Because of this interest he would like to study more in the future about public health and devote himself to the development of mental health in Korea.

Dr Seog-Jae Kim

Dr Kim graduated from the School of Medicine at Chonnam National University, Korea in 1992 and is currently the Head of Department in the Department of Psychiatry, St John of God Hospital, Gwangju, Korea. Dr Kim studied the community mental health services while attached to the St John of God Psychiatric Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.

Dr Ruzanna Zam Zam

Dr.Ruzanna ZamZam is a lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry, National University of Malaysia. She is also a psychiatrist practicing at the National University Hospital Dr ZamZam is one of the psychiatrists in the hospital who currently is responsible for the planning and delivery of psychiatric community services especially to the local population. Being an academic, she is also actively involved in the teaching programs of both undergraduates and postgraduates students and also participates in many researches at the University. Dr ZamZam's interest is to participate more actively in the process of upgrading the quality of curriculum particularly in regard to psychiatric training of both future doctors and psychiatrists. She is also interested in contributing to the development of a more comprehensive psychiatric community services both at local and national levels. She would also like to contribute to carrying out future research that would give an impact to the policy makers and population at large.

Dr Marhani Midin

Dr. Marhani Midin from Malaysia is a lecturer and psychiatrist at the National University of Malaysia. Her main roles at work are teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate students, doing research and running clinical services and her interest is in community mental health. Dr Midin is currently undertaking the International Mental Health Leadership Program as part of her Master of International Mental Health course and will soon be doing her Postgraduate Overseas Subspecialty Training in community mental health at St. Vincent's Community Mental Services, Melbourne, Australia Her dream is to establish an excellent training centre for community mental health in the area where she is working.

Dr Nor Hayati Ali

Dr Nor Hayati Ali obtained both her earlier degrees - the Doctor of Medicine [1992] and Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) [2000] at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and has been working at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) ever since she graduated as a psychiatrist. Being the biggest public hospital in the capital of Malaysia, HKL has a heavy workload (80-110 outpatients per clinic day) and thus Dr Ali is involved in a number of collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and therefore tends to be assigned to projects which involve a lot of writing - that is the preparation of the National Mental Health Framework and the Regulations under the new Mental Health Act. Dr Ali was also involved in the setting up of the National Mental Health Registry, which has been collecting data on new cases of schizophrenia since early 2003. Her involvement in these projects has given her the opportunity to learn not only from senior colleagues, but has also made her aware that there are many gaps in service delivery. Dr Ali is also undertaking a Community Psychiatry attachment at St. Vincent's Mental Health, Melbourne, Australia. Her philosophy in life is "If something is worth doing, then it is worth doing well".

Dr Zanariah Mat Saher

Dr Saher is a Residence Psychiatrist at the Department of Psychiatry, General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She graduated from her undergraduate degree in Medicine in 1991 and in 2001 graduated from the National University of Malaysia with her Masters of Medicine in Psychiatry. Since 2002 Dr Saher has been in charge of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Daycare Unit at the Department of Psychiatry, Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. Her main area of interest and her future plan is to be involved in community service for the elderly and their carers and to undertake sub-speciality in psychogeriatrics.

Dr Gerardo Carmelo B. Salazar

Dr Gerardo Salazar was born in Lucena City, Philippines, situated 137 km south of Manila and graduated from medicine at the University of Santo Tomas in 1992. Dr Salazar took residency in the combined neurology and psychiatry program at the Santo Tomas University Hospital graduating as Chief Resident in 1997. In late 1998, he took up a neuroimmunology and molecular biology fellowship in Kagoshima University, Japan under the Monbusho scholarship program. Dr Salazar is a visiting research fellow of the Department of Immunology, Imperial College of Medicine at St. Mary's, London, UK. In 2000 Dr Salazar returned to Lucena City to commence a private practice in neurology and psychiatry and in 2003, he took a mini fellowship in neurovascular ultrasound at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Bowman Gray Campus in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Dr Salazar now heads the ancillary services of the Lucena United Doctors Hospital and actively runs the stroke program of the area. In 2001 he started a stroke, epilepsy and depression awareness programs with the lay population of the city in cooperation with religious and non-governmental organizations. Together with the nursing service of the area, he is advocating the formation of patient and family support groups for the neurologic and psychiatric illnesses. Dr Salazar also teaches neurology and psychiatry for physical therapists at the San Juan De Dios Educational Foundation, Manila.

Dr (Stephen) Chih-Yuan Lin

Dr Lin graduated from National Defence Medical Centre in Taiwan in1987, and undertook the postgraduate course in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health from 1999 to 2000. For the past decade Dr Lin has been the Attending Psychiatrist and Director of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program and has been working at the biggest psychiatric teaching hospital in Taiwan, the Yu-Li Veterans Hospital. Dr Lin and his colleagues have devoted themselves to helping people with severe and persistent mental illness who have stayed at this hospital for extended periods, to reintegrate back into the communities. They initiated community rehabilitation programs, such as supported employment, residential services, crisis intervention, etc. to ensure the coordination and continuity of care and enhance the quality of life for this vulnerable population. At present, as the Head of Department of Psychiatry he focuses on developing services that are comprehensive enough to meet various needs of patients with different symptom profiles and disabilities and serve as many patients as possible. In addition to psychiatric rehabilitation programs, the Yu-Li Veterans Hospital is famous for its excellent research on tardive dyskinesia, molecular genetic exploration of psychopathology and psychopharmacology, internet (or cyber) psychiatry.

Dr Phunnapa Kittirattanapaiboon

Dr Phunnapa Kittirattanapaiboon is a Psychiatrist at the Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital, Thailand and holds the position of the Head of Mental Health Technical Development and Research Division and Head of Substance Abuse Technical Development and Services Division. Dr Phunnapa has undertaken a number of researches in methamphetaime psychosis over the past few years. Her papers have been published and presented nationally and internationally. She is a guest lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate students and health professionals. She is also the current editor of the Bulletin of Suan Prung and on the editorial board of the Psychiatric Association of Thailand newsletter. Dr Phunnapa was involved in the 2003 Thailand National Mental Health Survey.

Dr Tran Thi Hong Thu

Dr Thu has worked for some ten years in psychiatric hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam and has been involved in many different duties including Assistant Curator. At present, Dr Thu is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Vice-Head of Consultant Department at the Mai Huong Daycare Psychiatric Hospital in Hanoi. Her special interest is in community based mental health services. Dr Thu is a member of the Vietnamese Psychiatry Association and has an interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
