Barriers to mental health system development and the Lancet call for action: The situation in Indonesia

Student presentation of the Lancet series and discussion for each topic of Lancet series, with an understanding about the situation in Indonesia (according to Lancet series) and the implications.


Small Group Discussion:
Identifying and overcoming local barriers. Implementing locally a high priority component of the call to action.

Objectives:
Develop an understanding of the importance of and impediments to, the scaling up of mental health services.

Specific Outcomes:

  • Impediments to scaling up MH services;
  • Implications of the Lancet series for MH system development.

Local leadership for mental health system development


  • Introduction to leadership for MH System Development;
  • Introduction to policy development.

Small Group Discussion:

  • Setting priorities (framework for priority setting);
  • Stakeholder analysis;
  • Policy/program evaluation - related with the problem (day 1) and leadership plans for the futures - related with the overcoming and action (day 2).

Objectives:
Develop knowledge and skills in how to scale up mental health services in their local context.

Specific Outcomes:

  • Identification of what services should be developed as a priority in the specific setting;
  • Identification of services that may be adequate and those that may be unnecessary;
  • Identification of various stakeholders and methods to ensure their participation; and
  • Recommendations for the reorganisation of MH services in the region.

  • Principles of MH service design;

9 domain (JG), 6C-MH: minimum specifications for optimal MH system performance.

 

Objectives:

  • Develop knowledge and skills in how to scale up mental health services in their local context;
  • Design a mental health system development project that can be implemented in their settings.

Objectives:

  • Develop knowledge and skills in how to scale up mental health services in their local context;
  • Design a mental health system development project that can be implemented in their settings.

  • Develop knowledge and skills in how to scale up mental health services in their local context;
  • Design a mental health system development project that can be implemented in their settings - sustaining development and reform.

Specific Outcomes:

  • What are the major process, output and outcome indicators to monitor and evaluate mental health plan?
  • What data sources will each require?
  • How will these data sources be collected?
